List of Temples in Manali

Hadimba Devi Temple: This temple was constructed in the 16th century and is surrounded by thick deodar forests. Hidimba Devi temple is built in the honour of Goddess Hadimba, who is the wife of the strongest Pandav Bhim. The temple, commonly referred to as the Dhoongri Temple is believed to be the place where giantess Hadimba meditated to express remorse for her misdeeds. The rock in which Hadimba meditated is placed within the temple while a 10 centimeter footprint of goddess Durga greets you at the entrance. The Hadimba Devi Temple of Manali is probably the only temple that is dedicated to this goddess. Constructed by Maharaja Bahadur Singh in 1552, this temple is known for its intricate stone carvings of various animals, plants and local deities. The temple is so popular that almost all the packages offered by resorts and travel agents include a visit to this temple.

Raghunathji Temple: Raghunathji Temple is another popular temple in Manali dedicated to Lord Rama. Situated at an elevation of 2,050 meters above sea level, this Manali temple offers an amazing view of the surrounding region. The magnificent idol of Lord Rama in his chariot is the main attraction of this sacred place. Locals claim that this temple was built by Raja Jagat Singh in the 17th century when he obtained the beautiful Rama idol from Ayodhya. The temple glows in its full splendour during Dussehra when it is lit up with lights and diyas.

Bijli Mahadev Temple: Bijli Mahadev Temple is one of those temples that have an interesting legend associated with them. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is often called the ‘Temple of Lightening’. The temple houses a 60-foot long shaft on the temple top which is meant to attract atmospheric lightning. The lighting destroys the Shiva lingam at regular intervals and according to popular belief this phenomeon saves the world from destruction. This lingam is put together using butter each time it is shattered.

Basheshwar Mahadev Temple: Basheshwar Mahadev Temple, situated on the banks of River Beas, is one of the most beautiful temples in India. The stone carvings, sculptures and shikharas in this temple are flat topped making it unique and one of the must-see places in Kullu Manali. This temple is built to host a large idol of the 'Yoni Lingam' which represents Shiva, and his wife, Goddess Parvati. You will also find small shrines of Lord Vishnu, Goddess Laxmi, Goddess Durga, and Lord Ganesha outside the temple. For those who are unaware Vishnu is the Hindu god of preservation, Laxmi :the goddess of wealth and prosperity,  Devi Durga: the epitome of feminine force and Ganesha is the elephant-god who brings great fortune.
