The Government Museum in Cubbon Park (Bangalore) has an extensive gallery of national history, besides displays of artifacts and items of daily life, sculpture, coins and paintings of ancient period, Established 125 years ago by two British Surgeons, Dr Edward Green Balfour and Dr. H.R. Oswald, it was the only tourist attraction for visitor in those days in Bangalore. The local citizen called it as Tamasha Bangla (amusement bungalow).

There is splendid display of sculpture of various dynasties and inscriptions. An adjoining building houses the Venkatappa, the Art Gallery where the important paintings of K Venkatappa, the noted artist of the court of Mysore rulers can be seen. Situated next to the Government Museum in Cubbon Park is the Visweswaraya Industrial and Technology Museum dedicated to the memory of the famous engineer and architect of Modern Karnataka. The exhibits in the museum demonstrate the principles and concepts of technologies, Different application of science and technology in industry and human welfare are shown here through understandable gadgets. There is a Bal Bhavan, a children’s park with a mini train, lake bamboo groves, playground and an aquarium nearby. Most of these museums are usually open from 9 a.m to 5 p.m.. However, the holidays and correct timings have to be ascertained locally.
