The clusters of islands in the Bay of Bengal, Officially numbered as 224, are known as Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Of these majority forms the Andman group and 19 islands constitute the Nicobar group. The Andman Islands are said to owe their name to Lord Hanuman. The name is said to have originated from the Malay word Handerman.
